Wanjiru trained at the University of Nairobi and spent six years in busy Nairobi practices before completing her postgraduate diploma in conscious sedation in the United Kingdom. She came home with one conviction: that the biggest barrier to good dental health in Nairobi isn’t cost or access — it’s fear.
Shwari is built around that idea. Longer appointments, a slower first visit, a stop signal that always works, and laughing gas or oral sedation when talking isn’t enough.
Wanjiru still sees most of the clinic’s nervous first-time patients herself, and she leads every sedation appointment. Outside the clinic she teaches on dental anxiety at continuing-education days for Kenyan dentists and dental nurses.
What patients can expect
A conversation before anything else. Wanjiru asks what went wrong last time, what you’d like to happen today, and what you’d rather not. Nothing is done in the first visit that you haven’t agreed to — and “just a look” is a perfectly good first visit.
