- After-hours line for registered patients with severe pain, swelling or a knocked-out tooth. Not a 24-hour walk-in service.
This is not a 24-hour walk-in service. For facial swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, heavy bleeding that will not stop, or injury after an accident, go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
What to do now
Until you
reach us.
Severe toothache
Take an over-the-counter painkiller as directed on the pack. Avoid very hot, cold or sweet food. Call us — we keep time free every day for pain.
Knocked-out adult tooth
Pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse briefly in milk if dirty — do not scrub. Push it back into the socket if you can, or keep it in milk. Come in within the hour if possible.
Broken or chipped tooth
Rinse with warm water and keep any pieces. Cover sharp edges with sugar-free gum. Most broken teeth can be repaired the same day.
Swelling in the face or gum
Call us straight away. If swelling is spreading quickly, affects your eye, or makes breathing or swallowing difficult, go to a hospital emergency department now.
Lost filling or crown
Keep the crown safe. A little denture fixative or sugar-free gum can hold it for a day. Call us for the next available appointment.
Bleeding after an extraction
Bite firmly on a clean, damp gauze or tea bag for 30 minutes without checking. If bleeding continues, call the after-hours line.
Not urgent,
but worried?
Send a photo on WhatsApp and a dentist will tell you whether it can wait for a routine appointment.
