What a root canal is
Inside every tooth is a soft core of nerve and blood vessels. When decay or a crack lets bacteria reach it, it becomes inflamed or infected — which is the throbbing, keeps-you-awake kind of toothache.
A root canal removes that infected core, cleans and shapes the tiny canals, and seals them. The tooth stays in your mouth, working normally, for many years.
How we do it
We use digital X-rays, rotary instruments and a rubber sheet around the tooth to keep it clean and dry. Most root canals are finished in one visit of about an hour to ninety minutes; a badly infected tooth may need a second visit a week later.
After treatment
Expect some tenderness for two or three days — over-the-counter painkillers are usually enough. If a crown is needed, Dr Hassan can usually fit it within two weeks.
